Folosindu-mă de așa-zisa „identitate nomadică” pe care o oferă #
Hubzilla, mi-am „clonat” vechea pagină de pe instanța Workers of the World (
#^https://hub.workersofthe.world/). Toate postările, toate fișierele pe care le aveam acolo se regăsesc acum 1:1 pe noua pagină, care ține de data asta de un domeniu deținut de mine (
#^https://hub.princeps-poesis.xyz). A mers mai greu: din cauza unei incompatibilități de API, importul automatic nu a mers, dar am putut recurge la import manual și transfer WebDAV - asta e!
Din momentul în care am început să-mi pregătesc mutarea de pe Facebook în fedivers (adică universul rețelelor sociale federate prin protocolul ActivityPub), am aflat repede că există un mare risc ca instanța unde te cuibărești să dispară oricând, iar nu toate platformele fediversului au același grad de portabilitate a datelor. Facebook îți permite să exporți toate postările pe care le-ai scris, dar a le importa altundeva este o cu totul altă poveste. Mi-am zis că nu vreau să mă supun, ca Sisif, la a-mi transcrie de nenumărate ori aceleași câteva mii de texte strânse în 15 ani pe Facebook.
Am adoptat cu plăcere Hubzilla, dar la puțin timp după ce mi-am pornit contul, administrația, altminteri simpatică, a instanței de care aparțineam a avut un update cu probleme și baza de date a fost dată înapoi în timp... Din fericire, nu apucasem să transcriu mare lucru; din nefericire, nu mă grăbisem să-mi export conținuturile canalului; cu alte cuvinte, nu m-am folosit tocmai de „identitatea nomadică”, facilitatea creată tocmai ca să nu mai pierzi totul într-o asemenea situație, facilitatea care există numai pe Hubzilla și derivatele sale - (streams) și Forte.
Mi-am închiriat un VPS pentru Princeps Poesis (
#^https://princeps-poesis.xyz/), așa că m-am gândit să-i atașez acest subdomeniu și să rulez o instanță de Hubzilla - dacă ceva greșit se întâmplă, măcar să fie pe barba mea! Mă bucur că am luat această decizie, deoarece VPS-ul meu se mișcă mai rapid; de asemenea, am avut astfel posibilitatea de a-mi instala și mai multe „app”-uri (un fel de plugin-uri) care să adauge diverse funcționalități, cum ar fi un client IRC sau unul XMPP - nu le-am activat/testat încă, dar există. NB: Încă nu am testat nici federarea în sine - legătura dintre Hubzilla și restul rețelelor ActivityPub (Mastodon etc.) nu se face tocmai automat, dar să nu mai intru în detalii...
În viitor, instanța aceasta poate își va deschide porțile către comunitatea ce se va forma în jurul proiectului Princeps Poesis - rămâne de văzut dacă va fi posibil! Așa cum voi renunța la Facebook cu totul în momentul în care îmi vor cere buletinul, nici eu nu le voi cere altora buletinul. Până atunci, mă bucur să am o pagină personală care să nu fie doar o pagină statică HTML, ci să fie legată la o rețea socială de vreun fel, chiar dacă aici îmi va lipsi feedback-ul pe care îl aveam pe Facebook, unde îmi hrăneam iluzia că mă conectam "nemijlocit" la inima vieții literare românești... Astăzi, am alte orizonturi și încerc să planific pentru o lume foarte diferită de cea din trecut.

Taking advantage of the so-called „nomadic identity” provided by #
Hubzilla, I have cloned my old channel from the instance Workers of the World (
#^https://hub.workersofthe.world/). All the posts, all the files I had there have been reproduced 1:1 on the new channel, which belongs this time to a domain owned by myself (
#^https://hub.princeps-poesis.xyz). It did not work easily: because of an API incompatibility, the automatic import did not work, but I was able to do manual import and a WebDAV transfer - it is what it is!
When I began planning my move from Facebook onto the fediverse (that is the universe of social networks federated through the ActivityPub protocol), I found out quickly there is a great risk for whichever instance where you might cozy up can suddenly disappear at any time, and not all fediverse platforms have the same degree of data portability. Facebook allows you to export everything you've ever written, yet importing all that is a wholly different matter. I told to myself I do not want to subject myself, like Sisyphus, to endlessly transcribing the same several thousands of texts collected over 15 years of Facebook.
I adopted Hubzilla with great pleasure, yet no long after I've opened my previous account, the otherwise charming admin of the instance that hosted me had a buggy update and the database went down the time machine... Fortunately, I didn't get to transcribe much; unfortunately, I had not rushed to export the contents of my channel; in other words, I did not take advantage of „nomadic identity”, precisely the feature created especially for one to not lose everything in such a situation, a feature that only exists on Hubzilla and its derivatives, (streams) and Forte.
I rented a VPS for Princeps Poesis (
#^https://princeps-poesis.xyz/), so I thought why not attach this subdomain and run a Hubzilla instance - if something bad ever happens, at least it's just my responsibility! I am glad I took this decision, as my VPS runs faster; also, I was thus able to install even more "apps" (that is how they call site plugins) that can add various functionalities, such as an IRC client or a XMPP one - I did not activate/test them yet, but they exist. NB: I still did not test even federation itself - the connection between Hubzilla and the rest of the ActivityPub networks (Mastodon etc.) is not exactly automatic, but I won't get into details here...
In the future, this instance perhaps will open itself up for the community which will form around the Princeps Poesis project - it remains to be seen if it's going to be possible! Just as I will let go of Facebook completely when they'll ask for my ID, I won't ask other people's IDs. Until then, I am glad that I have a personal website that is not just a static HTML page, but it is connected to a social network of sorts, even though here I am going to miss the feedback I used to receive on Facebook, where I was nurturing the illusion that I had "immediate" connection to the heart of the Romanian literary world... Today I have different horizons and I am trying to plan for a world that is very different from the past one.
